 As a new calendar year begins, PGCPS offers staff, families, and community a look at where we are, and where we are headed as we continue the serious work of finalizing the FY27 Budget and embarking on the first stages of our new Strategic Plan. 

In the sixth installment of Dollars & Decisions — a series charting the path ahead toward the FY 2027 budget, we take a look at the challenge of growth vs. costs, leadership actions and MORE! 

 The winter storm had a significant impact on our county roads, schools, and neighborhoods – resulting in a seven-day loss of instructional time. We had one additional closure due to inclement weather in December, so will need to make up eight school days.

We know that any changes to the school calendar affect your family’s planning and routines, so we want to share some important updates following the emergency Board of Education meeting.

 The 2026 Session of the Maryland General Assembly is underway, and attending a District Night in Annapolis is one of the most powerful ways you can support your child’s education — and the future of our schools! Legislators rely on parent perspectives to understand what students truly need. When you share your story, you help shape decisions that impact classrooms across Prince George’s County Public Schools. 

 The 2026 State of the Schools address is not a report on deficits — it is a declaration of momentum. Viewed through an equity-honest lens, the evidence is undeniable: PGCPS scholars are making measurable gains, our educators are pioneering innovation, and our district is poised to expand pockets of excellence, into excellence everywhere.
